Feedback form is now closed.
EMS physician and leadership experts will present and debate the evolving science and evidence-based approach to patients with behavioral and mental health conditions with particular focus on the acute management, stabilization, treatment, and transfer considerations in both the pre-hospital and inter-facility settings. In addition, novel methods exploring the evaluation and management of behavioral health conditions in the home or alternative destinations outside the emergency department will be discussed. The 2020 NAEMSP Physician and EMS Clinician Forum is structured to build upon the successes of the last several years to a fourth continuous offering to a target audience of both EMS physicians and EMS providers. From prior reviews, extremely positive feedback was received from both the physicians and EMS providers alike. For this year’s session, the 2020 Forum is planning on an in-depth exploration of the current state of behavioral health management in addition to concepts and strategies regarding optimization of patient management where specialized behavioral health facilities and resources are limited. The morning lecture format will feature Colorado EMS physicians, EMS leadership, Office of Behavioral Health leadership, and payor experts with the following proposed agenda. Presentations are targeted at 15 minutes with an opportunity of targeted questions to the lecturers. The entire presentation of the topics are targeted to be within a total time block around 2.5 hours, ideally a 10 am to 12:30 pm session on Friday morning. The session will highlight the critical importance of EMS in evaluation and management of behavioral health conditions and emergencies as not only the first line of contact but serving as a critical resource for directing the navigation of the patient to the appropriate resource.
